Ryan Lu

Ryan Lu, PhD.

Postdoctoral Associate
EASBME BME Faculty

Research Interests

Ryan is a postdoctoral associate specializing in polymer chemistry and bioconjugation, with a current research focus on mRNA delivery for cancer immunotherapy.

Research History

Ryan obtained his PhD in Chemistry from the University of Massachusetts Amherst under the mentorship of Prof. Sankaran Thayumanavan, where he invented novel Polymeric Lysosome-Targeting Chimeras (PolyTACs) for extracellular targeted protein degradation.

Prior to his doctoral studies, Ryan worked as a polymer engineer at DuPont, focusing on polymer materials for photosensitive composites used in advanced electronic materials. He completed both his bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering and his master’s degree in Chemistry at National Tsing Hua University in Taiwan. His early undergraduate research under Prof. Chien-Tien Chen involved leveraging Suzuki-Miyaura and Buchwald–Hartwig couplings for organic photovoltaic materials, while his work with Prof. Hsin-Cheng Chiu focused on polymeric nanoparticles for drug delivery. During his master’s program, advised by Prof. Chi-How Peng, he specialized in controlled radical polymerization and their applications in siRNA and drug delivery.
