Chad Binns, M.D.

Instructor
MEDLAB Laboratory Medicine

Research Interests:

Chad is a laboratory medicine physician specializing in transfusion medicine with research interests at the intersection of pharmacology and immunohematology.

Research History:

Chad obtained his bachelor’s degree in biology at Hendrix College where he studied miRNA therapeutics in a mouse model of prostate cancer. During his time as a medical student at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, he collaborated with researchers at Vanderbilt University to characterize renal erythropoietin-producing cells and participated in an HHMI-funded medical research fellowship at Janelia Research Campus where he developed novel photosensitizers as molecular tools for basic science research. Chad currently studies how nanoparticle drug delivery systems – molecular tools for clinical utility – can be applied in the context of transfusion medicine. Chad also maintains active clinical research collaborations studying how blood product formulation and modification correlate with patient outcomes.
